Around 2,000 students from villages and semi-urban areas of the district wrote the Tamil Nadu Rural Students Talent Search Examination (TRuST) here on Sunday.

The examination is meant to identify students of high scholastic achievement in middle schools and provide them with scholarships for higher studies.

Students of Class 9 in recognised schools outside the city and in municipality limits in the district wrote the examination. The test was conducted by the Departments of Government Examination and School Education. It was arranged at five centres in the district, Khajamian Higher Secondary School and Methodist Girls Higher Secondary School in the city; Musiri Government Boys and Girls Higher Secondary Schools and the Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Lalgudi.

In Musiri educational district, 723 candidates, 585 from Lalgudi educational district and 819 in Tiruchy educational district were called for the examination. However 138 students did not take the examination.

K Selvakumar, Chief Educational Officer, monitored the conduct of the examination in the city centres. The selected students — 50 boys and 50 girls in a revenue district — will get the government scholarship of `1,000 per year till they complete Plus Two. They will lose eligibility in the event of being detained or if they discontinue their studies.
