Domestic Helps’ 12-yr Crime Spree Ends
Mahalakshmi Layout police were able to recover 260 grams of gold and 8 kg of silver stolen from Congress leader Alexander’s personal assistant Shivagangappa’s house over the last year. Domestic workers Lakshmi (32) and Rajamma (36) were arrested in this connection.
According to police, the duo have been stealing from homes they have been working in for the last twelve years. During their work hours, they would find out details of where jewellery was kept and make duplicate keys of the house. When members of the house were away, Lakshmi and Rajamma would enter and steal jewellery.
In 2013, the duo had started taking small items from Shivagangappa’s house. This was discovered only recently when his wife returned from the United States and found many jewellery items missing. Shivagangappa’s brother-in-law filed a complaint with Wilson Garden police recently.
In the meantime, the sisters were attempting to sell some of the jewellery and were caught by Mahalakshmi Layout police.
Chain Snatchers Arrested
Three youngsters, who waylaid unaccompanied women and made away with their jewellery after threatening them, were arrested by JC Nagar police.
The accused are Mosin Khan (23), Mohammad Irfan (19) and Toufiq Pasha (21). Pasha also stole two wheelers parked in front of homes by using duplicate keys.
The accused have cases against them in Hanumanthnagar, Sanjay Nagar and Chamarajpete police stations.
Police have recovered 70gms of gold and two two wheelers estimated to be worth `2.7 lakh from them.
A 24-year-old man who used similar tactics, was arrested in Srirampura police station limits for chain snatching. Valuables worth `2.15 lakh was recovered from him.
A 25-year old mugger was nabbed by the public during one his attempts in HAL police station limits on Wednesday evening.
Rajeev Fernandez tried to snatch Divya’s (24) chain. As Divya fought with him, a few passersby came to her rescue and thrashed the miscreant, before handing him over to the police. HAL police have registered a case and are investigating.
Two person were arrested by RT Nagar police for stealing valuables from homes using a similar modus operandi. The accused, Naveen Kumar and Lakshminaryan, both in their 20s, used to gain entry into homes by using duplicate keys. The two are from Machohalli and police recovered 183 grams of gold and a motorbike, estimated to be worth `5 lakh, from the duo.
