A 28-year-old office assistant was crushed to death after a lift collapsed at Pride Apartment in Bilekahalli on Bannerghatta Road, on Thursday evening.

The deceased Perumal, a native of Tamil Nadu, was working at the apartment for the last seven years and was residing at Doresanipalya near Bannerghatta.

Police said the incident occurred around 6.30 pm when Perumal got into the lift. But it is not clear to which floor he had been, but the lift might have crashed from the first floor and did not open.

The residents, who heard the sound, tried to open the lift door in vain. Then, Naveen, who lives at the premises, alerted the fire department control room.

“The fire personnel rushed to the spot and opened the door to find Perumal dead, due to head injuries. We have summoned the officials of the company that installed the lift and will take suitable action after ascertaining the reason for the incident,” the police added.

The JP Nagar police are investigating.
