Banashankari police on Thursday arrested a gang of six for allegedly killing a history-sheeter.

The accused have been identified as Thoparaj alias Raja (33), a history-sheeter from Basavanagudi police limits, Mohammed Alimulla (25) from Hegde Nagar, Sudhir Prakash (20) from Brindavan Nagar in Subramanyapura, Tejas (26) from Yadalamma Nagar in Subramanyapura, Athoosh alias Ateeq Ahmed (40), a history-sheeter from  Cottonpet, and Chennakeshava (30) from Ramanagaram.

Police sources said the gang received a supari (contract) to kill Naveen Kumar alias Surya, a resident of Jai Bheem Nagar in Padmanabha Nagar. The accused carried out the murder on March 23.

Police said Surya and one of the accused, Athoosh, had an old rivalry and the latter had murdered Surya’s associate Jeevan. Athoosh was in jail and hatched a plan to kill Surya when he found that the latter was doing well in Cottonpet.

Police arrested Athoosh from prison after obtaining a court order. They suspect that he may have carried out many other murders from behind bars.
