Hundreds of students wrote the pen-and-paper-based 2014 Joint Entrance Examination (Main) in Hubli and Mangalore on Sunday.

The first stage of the examination, conducted for admissions to engineering courses offered by NITs, IIITs and other Central and state-funded institutions, is conducted in both offline (pen and paper) and online (computer) modes.

Paper-1 (BE/BTech) of JEE (Main) includes an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which the candidate has to take if he or she wants to apply for undergraduate programmes offered by IITs. The online computer-based examination will be held on April 9, 11, 12 and 19 in 20 cities across the state.
