Dip in Aspirants This Year for CET; H-K Gets Quota

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has received 1.40 lakh applications from students aspiring to join under-graduate professional courses through the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2014. This is slightly less than the number of applications last year.

As per the schedule announced by KEA, Thursday was the last date to receive filled applications. As on Thursday, there were 1.40 lakh applications. In 2013, KEA received 1.48 lakh applications and, in 2012, there were 1.30 lakh aspirants.

Speaking to Express, a KEA official said, “Though we had set April 10 as the last date, we will still receive applications through post and in person, considering the interest of the students. The exact number of aspirants will be available only after April 15,” he said. The CET is scheduled to be held on May 1, 2 and 3. The admission tickets will reach the candidates by April 21.

What is New

■  There will be reservation for Hyderabad-Karnataka candidates under Article 371(J). KEA will later announce through newspaper and web advertisements what documents need to be submitted.

■  Those appearing for CET can also get admission to B Pharm and D Pharm courses through lateral entry.

■  To avail reservation, candidates must submit new income certificate. The income ceiling is `4.50 lakh per annum.

May 8: Publication of provisional answer keys for CET 2014

May 15: Last date to submit objections regarding answer key

 May 20: Last date to appear for NATA

May 22: Last date to submit NATA scores along with II PUC marks card

May 27: Announcement of CET results

 June 1 and 2: Verification of documents for special candidates, sports and NCC quota

June 5 to 23: Verification of documents at helpline centres
