TV Artiste Held

for Theft

The Rajarajeshwari Nagar police on Monday arrested a film actress for her alleged involvement in thefts.

Her modus operandi was to visit homes of her friends on the pretext of inviting them for a pooja at her home.

The accused Sujatha alias Nagalakshmi (39), a resident of Girinagar, is married to Somashekar, who runs a chit fund business. Sujatha has acted in Mata and TV serials like Mangalya and Rangoli and others.

Police said based on a complaint from one Kavana, a resident of Vijaynagar, Sujatha was arrested. She had allegedly committed theft in Kavana’s house on April 4 along with her friend Kavitha, a co-artist.

Sujatha used to make surprise visits to the houses of her friends around Vijaynagar, Mysore Road, Girinagar and other areas along with Kavitha.

She would discuss her roles in TV serials and invite them for a pooja at her house.

When the victims were in the kitchen, she would  sneak into bedrooms and bathrooms to steal gold and silver ornaments.

Sujatha and Kavitha were arrested two months ago for their alleged involvement in two similar cases in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. They had been released on bail only two weeks ago.
