An Irish woman and a seven-year-old were sexually assaulted in separate incidents in the city in the last 24 hours.

In another incident on April 10, a software engineer who was alone at home was allegedly sexually assaulted by a cab driver.

A 30-year-old Irish woman was allegedly molested by an elderly man while she was taking rest at the air-conditioned waiting room at the city railway station on Thursday. Soon after the incident, the Railway police arrested the accused R Kashinath (51), a native of Davangere, who is an evangelist.

Police said the incident occurred around 11.30 am when she was in the AC waiting room on the first floor of the city railway station building. Kashinath, who was also in the room, noticed her asking the security guard to provide her a blanket as she was feeling cold. As they denied her the service, he moved from his chair and offered her his blanket. When she refused to take it, he forcefully put the blanket on her and hugged her and held her shoulder tightly, the woman alleged.

She said she managed free herself from the accused and raised an alarm. The staff and police rushed to her aid. The accused had fled the scene when she resisted but the police arrested him later. It is said that the woman was down with fever and dehydration and was at the AC room to take rest. The accused had been wandering at the railway station since a couple of days.

The woman, a psychologist, had been to Hampi and had returned on Thursday morning by Hampi Express. She was waiting to board an evening train to Kerala.

In another incident, locals and neighbours thrashed a security guard and handed him over to the police after he allegedly sexually abused a seven-year-old girl in an under-construction apartment in Marathalli. The incident was reported in HAL police limits. The accused Raju (28) hails from Assam.

Police said the incident occurred in the evening when girl’s parents had gone out to vote. Raju, who noticed the girl playing with another girl, took her from the spot on the pretext of buying her chocolate and brought her to his home in an under-construction apartment where he allegedly sexually abused her.

As the girl started screaming, he left her and went out for a while. The girl managed to reach her house and complained to her mother about pain in her private parts. The mother asked her what had happened and she explained about the incident. Her parents then took her to the same spot where the girl pointed out to Raju.

Locals and neigbours, who came to know about the incident, rushed to the spot on Friday morning and thrashed him brutally before handing him over to the police.

The HAL police arrested Raju who has since been handed over to judicial custody.

In yet another incident, a 26-year-old home-alone techie was sexually harassed by a driver at an apartment in Sadashivanagar on April 10.  The victim lives at her brother-in-law’s house.

Police said the victim’s sister and brother-in-law had gone for a trip at the time of the incident.

Around midnight, the accused Mallikarjun, who hails from Bellary, called her over phone saying he had to repair a switchboard at the apartment. But she told him to come the next morning. After a while, he called her again saying it is urgent and managed to gain entry into the house.

After leading him to the switchboard, she went into the kitchen. He followed her to the kitchen and allegedly tried to rape her. As she started screaming, he locked her in the kitchen and fled. She then called her sister and told her about the incident.

The next day, she filed a case with the Sadashivanagar police who are now on the lookout for the accused.
