Attempt to Loot Bank Goes in Vain

Taking advantage of the two-day  holiday for banks, unidentified miscreants attempted break into the strong room of the State Bank of India branch at RPC Layout in Vijayanagar.

Police sources said the incident came to light on Saturday morning when bank staff noticed that the rear door of the strong room was damaged.

They alerted the police immediately. The miscreants failed to find a way into the room and are said to have broken open an almirah, in which they found nothing. The exact time or day of the theft attempt is not yet known.

The bank was closed on Thursday on account of the Parliamentary elections and on Good Friday. As a result, there was no security guard at the bank.

The miscreants allegedly disabled the CCTV cameras and made away with the hard disk connected to the cameras.

Fingerprint experts suspect it to have been the work of a two-member team. Bank manager Kumar Gupta has filed a complaint at Vijayanagar police station. Investigation is on.
