Mohan Muthanna, a 25-year-old hockey player, is known for his speed and goal-scoring acumen. He was recently adjudged as the Best Player  and the Best Forward in the Field Marshal K M Cariappa Memorial Tournament.

Mohan scored dozens of goals for the eventual winners, the Sports Authority of India's Sports Hostel team. They found their way into the opponent's cage  and Mohan played a crucial role in their eventual success.

"I joined Sports Hostel in 2006 and since then I have been scoring for them. My coaches Prabhakar, Ashwath and Manohar Katge have guided me all along. I am grateful for all that they have done for me," said Mohan.

"I joined a summer coaching camp back home in Virajpet as a five-year-old toddler and took fancy to the game," said the arts graduate from Al-Ameen College.

Mohan has played for his inter-collegiate winning team and also for Bangalore University. "I played for Bangalore University for three years and then for the State senior team from 2011," he said.

It's a family affair

Hockey seems to be a family tradition for Mohan's family. While Mohan's father Muthanna plays for the Maratha Light Infantry Regimental Centre team, his brother Nanaiah plays for local clubs back home. "My dad follows my game very closely and gives me tips on ways to improve," Mohan said.

"I have always wanted to play for my country and that is my ambition. I will work hard to realise my dream," said Mohan for whom India winger S V Sunil is the idol. "I like Sunil's game. I try to play like he does," he said.

We hope that one day Mohan will take Sunil's legacy forward.
