IISc Student Found Dead in College Hostel

The highly-decomposed body of a 23-year-old IISc student was found hanging in his room in the college hostel on C V Raman Road in Sadashivnagar on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as J K Prabhakaran, son of Krishnamurthy and a native of Chennai. He was a second-year  mechanical engineering student in the aerospace department.

Police sources said the body was found after one of the students sensed a foul smell and asked the security guard to find its source. The guard informed the police, who came to the campus and broke open the door to Prabhakaran’s room. They found the body hanging from a ceiling fan.

They suspect the death to have occurred two or three days ago. No suicide note was found in the room but sources said Prabhakaran was distraught over a love affair.

Brijendra Kumar, general secretary of IISc Students’ Council, told Express he did not know why the body was not found earlier.

“This is bad news and what is worse is that it (the body) was found so late.... Prabhakaran had secured a job before. We will support the police in their investigation”. IISc authorities were not available for comment.
