A few months back, actress Roopika was subjected to cruel jibes about her weight. But she is one actress who proved her detractors wrong, and having lost 10 kgs in three months, Roopika admits that it was a necessary change. “The film industry is more competitive than ever. Everyday, there is a new talent. I could feel the pressure when many people told me to keep a check on my weight. I took it in a positive way and started working on it,” says the actress.
Roopika, who did not take up any project after Gharshane and took a break of three months, stated that she spent her time learning swimming, car driving and practicing Bharatanatyam. “I exercised for two-and-half-months and followed a strict diet. It was more like a resolution for 2014, which I have lived upto. When I saw my recent photos, I felt transformed,” exults Roopika.
While her debut was with Cheluvina Chilipili, which was a parallel beginning with actress Amulya, Roopika admitted that she could not make it like her contemporaries. “I have waited for long and observed that people want to go to theatres only if they find the film different from the regular formula. So, I have to find a script that justifies all my hard work. I don’t want to be the same Roopika. This time, I prefer to wait and choose. Currently, I have three scripts, out of which I will choose the best by next fortnight,” she explains. The young lass is also busy studying for her exams. “I am now in my second year B Com and my exams fall sometime next month. I am busy going through the notes,” said Roopika, who also plans to take up her exams in Bharathanatyam. “I am a classical dancer and I have received about 3000 awards performing in various competitions and cultural activities all over India. I have also choreographed a few dance shows. It is an art and will remain with me along with my film career,” she says.
