CHENNAI: Sree Venkateshwarar Matric Hr Sec School, Royapettah celebrated its  54th Annual Day on August 2 on the school premises. R Brindha, Additional Registrar–Managing Director, C C Bank, Chennai, presided over the function. R Kalyana Sundaram, IFS, Chief Conservator of Forests, Tamil Nadu, was the guest of honour.

The function began with the lighting of the kuthuvilakku. This was followed by a cultural programme. The Tamil drama on King Asoka and the English drama on the ‘Joy of Giving’ were enjoyed by the audience. The programme included classical, western, fusion and Tamil folk dances.

Correspondent Vedha Srinivasan honoured the chief guests. Kalyana Sundaram stressed the importance of planting trees, especially in the context of the global warming. He himself planted a couple of saplings on the school lawns. Brindha appreciated the cultural programme and praised the staff members for their sincere efforts. The function concluded with the singing of the national anthem.
