CHENNAI: The fourth Annual Sports meet of Jagannath Vidyalaya was held on Aug 9. Guest of honour V Ravichandran, chess player and coach, declared the sports meet open, surrounded by the youngest members of the school, who were dressed up as national symbols.

There were drill performances by KG, primary and senior secondary classes. But the best came with the sporting partner of the school, Edu Sports, organising events for classes Pre-KG to 5, enthralling one and all.

The track and field events for the senior classes included relay, 100m and 200m sprints, contested by the school houses, Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, Kalpana and Rohini. Aryabhatta emerged champions dominating in the march past and track events.

The chief guest emphasised the importance of sports in the curriculum and gave useful tips on his pet game, the mind-bending sport of chess. School trust secretary Subbuswamy congratulated the school and staff for their continued efforts to inculcate a love of sports in the hearts of all students.

The programme concluded with the presentation of the rolling shield to the winning house and a cup to the best march past display and, finally, the national anthem.
