Domestic Workers' Day Programme

BANGALORE: The Karnataka Domestic Workers’ Union has urged all domestic workers to attend a programme to mark International Domestic Workers’ Day on Monday.

Founding member of the union, Sr Celia, called upon all domestic workers to work together to recognise their rights. Domestic workers do not have any legal protection, she said and added that employers still refer to them as ‘servants’ and they are treated as ‘sub-humans’.

The government should implement the recommendations of the International Labour Organisation Convention and issue health insurance cards to domestic workers, she added.
