Mandur Seeks Respite from Stench

There seems to be no end to Mandur villagers’ woes as several of them complained of nausea on Sunday.

BANGALORE: There seems to be no end to Mandur villagers’ woes as several of them complained of nausea on Sunday.

The unbearable stench emanating from the mounds of garbage at the landfill has worsened after rains, alleged Shivaji Rao, a resident.

Mandur had recently agreed to allow Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike  (BBMP) to dump garbage for five months after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah intervened in the matter.

Rao said BBMP Commissioner M  Lakshminarayana, Chief Engineer M L Munikrishna and Mayor B S Sathyanarayana have been apprised of the problems being faced by the villagers.

He also hinted at an agitation if BBMP did not resolve their complaints at the earliest.

‘Steps to be Taken to Minimise Odour’

Meanwhile, Sathyanarayana said engineers and health officers have been intimated about the concerns raised by the villagers .

“The health officials have been directed to increase spraying on the accumulated garbage and take up necessary measures to minimise the odour,” Sathyanarayana added.
