BANGALORE: Undergraduate and postgraduate medical courses across the country will soon get a new curriculum. The Medical Council of India (MCI) is framing the syllabus, which is expected to be completed by December. Speaking to reporters, MCI Chairman Dr Vedprakash Sharma said the new syllabus is “mainly competency based”. Once it is completed, it will go to the Union government for approval and after that to all the states for implementation. According to Sharma, emergency care skills will be included in the new curriculum. About MCI rejecting renewal of affiliation to some medical colleges in the state and not permitting new colleges, Vedprakash said, “MCI executive committee took the decision based on the report submitted by the technical evaluation committee. MCI is just a recommendatory body and the final decision is left to the government.”
