Undertrial Kills Himself in Prison

A 25-year-old undertrial at Parappana Agrahara central prison, identified as Tayappa, committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping from an under-construction wall near the kitchen hall.

BANGALORE: A 25-year-old undertrial at Parappana Agrahara central prison, identified as Tayappa, committed suicide on Tuesday by jumping from an under-construction wall near the kitchen hall.

He sustained severe head injuries and other inmates and jail staff rushed him to a nearby hospital where he succumbed in the night. Parappana Agrahara police are investigating in this connection

Tayappa hailed from Gonikallu in Deodurg taluk of Raichur district. He was arrested by Yeshwantpur police for murdering his wife Basamma (22) on April 20. He had been remanded to judicial custody by a court.

A construction worker, Tayappa had married Basamma one-and-a-half months ago and the couple was living in a rented house in Mathikere.

Tayappa was furious that their marriage had not been consumated and strangulated Basamma after a heated argument. Later, he sought the help of a friend saying his wife suddenly fell unconscious and had to be taken to a hospital. But doctors had found injuries on her neck and alerted the police.
