KSRTC Driver Held for Trying to Steal Bus

BANGALORE: Upparpet police on Thursday arrested a 41-year-old KSRTC bus driver for attempting to steal a BMTC bus parked at Majestic bus station on Thursday. The driver of the BMTC bus, who was sleeping inside, thwarted the robbery bid and handed over the culprit to the police.

The accused has been identified as Maruthi, a native of Alanda in Gulbarga district. He was appointed as a driver with KSRTC’s Anekal depot six months ago. He allegedly planned to sell the bus parts. Police said BMTC bus driver Manjunath and conductor Ambarish were sleeping in the bus after parking it on the service road around 1.30 pm when Maruthi managed to get inside the vehicle.

On hearing the vehicle being started and feeling it moving, Manjunath woke up and noticed Maruthi in the driver’s seat. Ambarish and he overpowered Maruthi and alerted the police. Police said the KSRTC driver was not found to be involved in similar cases and was produced before the court.

Cops Detain Man for Wife’s Murder

A 28-year-old Nepal-based woman was allegedly smothered to death in a shed at Poojahalli near Devanahalli on Wednesday night. Police suspect her husband’s hand in the murder.

Radhika was married to Sheikh Bahadur (40). They came to the city just a month ago and were working in a farm belonging to one Mandeep Singh. They lived in a temporary shed there.

Police said Bahadur, in his statement to the police, said some unidentified people entered their shed on Wednesday night, locked him in a room and smothered his wife.

He said he managed to get out of the room later and approached the police on Thursday.

Preliminary investigation revealed that there are no multiple rooms in the shed. “We have detained him and are questioning him about the murder,” an officer said.Kempegowda International Airport police are investigating the incident.
