Beach Fun

Summer is fast approaching and even if you live in a place that is extremely cold, what’s better than to enjoy the sun and sand at a wonderful beach city for a few days? With the exams coming to an end and holidays approaching, maybe it’s time to plan a nice family holiday.

Some popular beach destinations in India are of course Goa, Mumbai, the entire southern coast and the Andaman. Except Goa, they are more focused on tourism than the beaches, so if you want the sand and the surf, Goa is the place to go and enjoy the sun or sea to your heart’s content. This tiny State in our country has a lot more to offer than other larger ones. If beaches are what you  crave then it is what you will get, with a side of amazing food and drink, beautiful resorts, spas, shacks, clubs and concerts. The best time to visit Goa, if you are a music buff, is when the Sunburn Music Festival is in town — that way you can enjoy the Candolim Beach and international music acts all together.

If it’s international beaches you want to explore and are confused, the thing to figure out first would be what exactly you want in terms of your holiday. Is it a family affair, a vacation with friends or a romantic getaway? Are you planning to be a spendthrift or just thrifty? Do you want other tourist attractions or are you happy with just the beach? After these parameters are straight you can shortlist the actual location.

Greece as a country provides eons of history along with the novelty of beach parties that go on and on till the first rays of the sun hit the deep blue Aegean Sea. The islands and the coastline promise clean sand and sparkling water, which is so clear that you don’t need scuba gear or even to be in the water to see the sea bed

and the life that salt water sustains.

A local can guide you to the hidden beaches all over the country that don’t even have direct access from the road and require a great deal of climbing and tumbling on slippery rocks to reach. Greece is easy on the pocket and makes for an unforgettable Mediterranean adventure.

South East Asia is also synonymous with beaches. Pattaya, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Macau, Bali, Maldives and Mauritius boast of white sands, clear skies and clean waters. Though thoroughly commercialised, the beaches of these cities are family-friendly. You can participate in water sports and have the time of your life shopping and trying out a very different eastern cuisine. These places are also good if you want to go somewhere exotic for your honeymoon or anniversary but keep in mind, because of the popularity and the commercialisation, they are extremely expensive for everything from accommodation to a bottle of water.

Spain is another European country which has a Mediterranean, coastal vibe and fun party atmosphere. A place to visit with friends, Ibiza, is as awesome as the song inspired by this beach town. If you are on a European tour and Spain is on your itinerary then Ibiza is not to be missed, if for nothing else but watching the beautiful people as you enjoy a mojito on a deck chair with sand between your toes.

The USA is so large that you will find whatever it is you desire from your vacation, including the beaches. Florida on the east coast and California on the west coast promise a variety of them, sandy, with pebbles, dog-friendly or even to be used as picnic spots. The Hamptons near New York is a place for the movers and shakers of this lively city to migrate to during the summer to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps. The National Highway 1 of California promises a scenic drive along the coast. You can make stops along the beaches dotting the whole length of it if you desire a dip in the sea.

Planning a beach holiday is not as breezy an affair as the beaches themselves, it is more like a sweltering day that will make you sweat, but once there, you can let all your worries and problems wash off in the frothy waves.
