Two unidentified miscreants diverted a businessman’s attention and escaped with `5 lakh in Whitefield police station limits on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Adisheshaiah(55), a resident of Channasandra who supplies groceries to provision stores.

The police said the incident took place around 10.45 am. Adisheshaiah withdrew the cash from a Vijaya Bank branch in Whitefield Main Road and went to take his bike parked in front of the bank.

Meanwhile, an unidentified man who came on another bike told Adisheshaiah that there was some dirt on his shirt. As he was holding the bag and tried to clean the dirt, the person said a `100 note had fallen from his bag. After noticing the note lying on the road, he kept his cash bag on his bike and bent to take it. Soon, he realised the cash bag was missing and the miscreants who were on the other bike had disappeared.  He immediately rushed to the police station and explained the incident.

The police suspect habitual offenders are behind the crime and are checking the CCTV footage of cameras installed outside the bank and around the area to identify the miscreants. Whitefield police are investigating in this connection.
