Woman Succumbs to Burn Injuries

A 29-year-old woman, who was allegedly set ablaze by three of her family members over a financial dispute at her house in Ramachandrapura near Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday, succumbed to burn injuries on Friday.

A 29-year-old woman, who was allegedly set ablaze by three of her family members over a financial dispute at her house in Ramachandrapura near Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday, succumbed to burn injuries on Friday.

Following the incident, the  police are looking out for the accused who are absconding.

The deceased, Vijayalakshmi, who was married to Balakrishna, a scrap dealer.

The accused have been identified as Venu, her brother-in-law, his wife Reena Devi and her mother-in-law Sarojamma.

The police said Balakrishna and Vijayalakshmi were living in the ground floor of a house, while his elder brother Venu’s family along with Sarojamma were living on the first floor. The brothers had a financial dispute and had quarrelled over the issue.

On April 10, Venu, his wife and mother had allegedly assaulted Vijayalakshmi and she had filed a case against the three and they were arrested later.

A few days ago, they were released on bail and on Tuesday, the accused came to Balakrishna’s house after confirming Vijayalakshmi was alone and set Vijayalakshmi on fire after by pouring kerosene. Hearing her screams, neighbours rushed to her rescue and shifted her to Victoria Hospital,  they said.

Based on Vijayalakshmi’s police statement, Vidyaranyapura police registered a case of murder and are conducting further investigation.
