The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), Police and the Transport Departments have drawn up measures that they propose to take to control the increasing noise pollution levels in the city.
The move follows a directive from the Karnataka State Polution Control Board (KSPCB). The Malleswaram Residents’ Welfare Association had filed a writ petition in the High Court regarding noise pollution in Malleswaram.
The court noted that noise is also an air pollutant and issued directions to the departments concerned to address the issue.
More Skywalks With Lifts Proposed
Accordingly, the KSPCB issued directions to the Police Department, BBMP and Transport Department under Section 31(A) of the Air Act this March.
Interestingly, the BBMP proposes to construct 100 skywalks with lifts/escalators across the city. The Police Department has already launched awareness programmes on noise pollution. The Transport Department is seizing defective horns fitted on vehicles, its officials said.
