Bangalore: Past life, life after death and rebirth are ideas not unfamiliar to us in India but it was Dr Brian L Weiss, a graduate of Columbia University and Yale Medical School, and a trained therapist whose initiation into past life

regression sparked off a world-wide interest in the multiple versions of human existence. His book Many Lives, Many Masters became a global best-seller and turned many non-believers into believers.

Mirrors of time and a few other books have made people think about the benefits of regression and healing. In Bangalore, many therapists are conducting workshops to delve deeper into the mystery of past life regression. Mumbai-based psychologist Dr Trupti Jayin comes often to Bangalore to conduct past life therapy sessions, having gained fame from the NDTV show, Raaz Picchle Janam Ka.

We spoke to Prof Ramaswamy, Founder-Director of Radiant Health, about this subject and he said, ''Hypnosis is science. It is a way of dealing with psycho-somatic issues. They are the problems of the mind that affect the body.  Stress levels affect the body to such a high extent that fear and anxiety alter our minds. Hypnosis is all about reprogramming the subconscious mind so that your body can heal and get cured. The more you think, the more your body starts to get affected. The principle of hypnosis/hypnotherapy is to the let the body relax to a point where the subconscious mind is accessible. Conscious mind includes limited thinking of our lives where as the subconscious mind consists of our choices, habits and emotions.

It needs to be programmed in order to let the body heal. In the process of hypnotherapy, the patient is made to mentally and physically relax. The Alpha state is reached where in the mind can be programmed and the body is open to healing. It's not magic, "

In his opinion, "It's just training. Hypnosis is more of a way to let the patient access his own natural state of mind."

He continues, "The same holds good with past life regression. It is more of a technique to bring out those thorns that hamper your daily life. stored emotions, hidden fears, unfulfilled desires and wishes.. all of these affect us and block our subconscious mind. regression is just a label given to it. The body and mind both are protective of each other and the desires are too strong to be let out so fast. " He thinks, "It takes time to release it all but it works once a relaxed state is reached and questions are asked to the mind. Causes and roots of all fears and phobias are found. Something that's within and troubling the person can be cured and forgotten."

He feels  TV programmes are more of a scam because  it is not right to publicly hypnotise patients.  A few things may get out and cause a lot of upheaval in the current life of the person.
