IIT Roorkee Signs MoU with UK Based University

DEHRADUN: Seeking to promote collaborative research in the areas of aviation and railway engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IIT-R) has  inked an agreement with the University of Southampton based in UK.

An Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in this regard was signed by IIT Roorkee Director Professor Pradipta Banerji and the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton Professor Don Nutbeam during a workshop at Southampton recently, a release from IIT Roorkee said here today.

"To cement the relationship the institutions are holding a number of thematic workshops both in the UK and India. The workshop this week in Southampton has already enabled us to identify areas where there is real potential for thematic scientific collaboration and we are very excited to be holding the next workshop at our Roorkee campus in July," Banerji said after signing the agreement. 

"Other initiatives too are on the cards, including a number of staff visits and exchanges and proposals which will be of interest to both UK and Indian commercial organisations and Government bodies," he said. 

Both the institutions are focusing on developing technological solutions for Indian aviation and railway industry.

Professor Mark Spearing, the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Southampton who was present at the signing of the MoU said, "There are tremendous synergies between our institutions and excellent opportunities to build on these,via a number of initiatives developed by the UK and Indian Governments to promote collaborative research, for example UKIERI and the recently established Newton-Bhabha Fund."
