Techie Alleges Sexual Harassment By Seniors

The complainant said she was being harassed since December and she had also sent a mail in this regard to a senior officer in Delhi in March

BANGALORE: A 28-year-old senior software engineer has filed a sexual harassment case against three senior staffers of Samsung R&D Institute India Pvt Ltd located in Bagmane Constellation Business Park, Outer Ring Eoad.

On April 7, the company had also filed a complaint against her for threatening to commit suicide. 

The complainant, a resident of Sadananda Layout near NGEF, approached HAL police last Tuesday and stated in her complaint that three of her seniors, who work in the technical department, had sexually harassed her often.

One of the accused had allegedly threatened to kill her if she complained about the harassment to anyone.

Speaking to Express, the complainant said she was being harassed since December 2013 and she had also sent a mail in this regard to a senior officer in Delhi in March this year.

She said her seniors had threatened to sack her for sending the email.

According to Mahadevapura police, the company, in its complaint registered on April 7, said it had issued a notice to the complainant stating she would be sacked for poor performance.

“The company claims that the employee threatened to commit suicide in the office premises if she was sacked” the police said.

A senior police officer from HAL police station said that the employee’s complaint was registered on May 20 and the case will be transferred to Mahadevapura police as the office is located in their limits.

Company Response

A Samsung spokesperson said: “The case pertains to an employee of Samsung Research Institute in Bangalore and the matter is under investigation by relevant authorities. Samsung is providing them full co-operation and we do not disclose personal information regarding its employees”.
