Notorious Thief Held

BENGALURU: Chandra Layout police have arrested notorious thief Raja alias Moriraja (40), and recovered 1.3 kg gold jewels and 7 kg silver.

With his arrest, the police have solved 29 house-breaking thefts. Another thief, Penchal Reddy (33), an accomplice has also been arrested for pledging the stolen jewels and getting money for Moriraja, police said.

Moriraja was living in Kirloskar Colony in Basaveshwaranagar with his wife and children. Police said he started stealing at the age of 25. He was arrested in a bike theft case but continued stealing even after his release from jail. 

He got the name Moriraja as he would sit near the sewage line (mori in Kannada) at night and gain entry into locked houses after people had gone to sleep. He would then loot the gold and silver from the houses, police said.

Woman Murdered

A 45-year-old woman was found murdered at her house in Kogilu Cross near Yelahanka on Monday. The assailants had bludgeoned her head and face with a heavy object.The victim Shivakumari, was a vendor and used to sell lemons. The incident came to light around 12.30 pm, when a youth found her lying in a pool of blood. Yelahanka police sent the body for postmortem.
