House in HSR Layout Robbed, Woman Raped

BENGALURU: A gang of four robbers barged into a house in HSR Layout in the guise of policemen and allegedly raped a 25-year-old woman after tying up her family members in another room.

The incident took place on October 24, and was initially reported as a robbery. However, the woman told the police during the spot inspection that she was raped. Based on her statement, the police filed a fresh FIR and arrested the accused.

According to the police, the accused Nandeesh, Anil Kumar, Sujith and Simon, all residents of Kalena Agrahara, had entered the house by claiming that they had information that liquor had been stocked in the house illegally and they wanted to conduct a search. They forced the victim’s husband, who works as a mechanic, to open the door. The prime accused Nandeesh is a habitual offender, the police added.

After barging into the house, the robbers threatened the woman, her husband and mother-in-law. Her nine-month-old child was asleep then. They slapped the woman’s husband, forced him to open the almirah, and took away the gold jewels and some cash. Later, they forcefully undressed and raped her, the police said.

A senior police officer said the family hails from Odisha and has been living in the city for the last 10 years. The investigation officer said two of the accused raped the woman when her husband and mother-in-law were locked up in another room.

Before fleeing the spot, they threatened the family that they would kill them if they complained to the police.

After a while, the victim and her husband managed to untie themselves and raised an alarm. The neighbours, who rushed to the spot, alerted the police.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that Nandeesh, who had a history of criminal activities, had come with Anil, Sujith and Simon, who were not involved in any case earlier. We are preparing to take further action against the accused under the Goonda Act,” the officer said.

The police said they have collected all evidence from the spot and seized the mobile phones of the accused.  Valuables robbed from the victim’s house have also been recovered.
