BENGALURU: Strategic growth is the mantra that Raju M, the managing director of Spoorthi Textiles, believes in. Having taken up the franchise of Raymond, he has never been in any hurry. When he started his first showroom in September 2012, he was certain that the location needs to be different from the others who believe that a branded showroom should be in upmarket areas. He chose Nagarbhavi and within a short period of time, the area boomed and so did his business.
Having opened another showroom, he is carefully optimistic about the future. He speaks to City Express about the latest trends in his business and the plans for his showrooms.
Tell us about your new showroom.
We opened a showroom at Rajarajeshwarinagar in October last year. It has a space of 2800 sq. ft., which is a little smaller than our first showroom in Nagarbhavi, which is 3300 sq. ft. While our USP has been custom tailoring, we are catering to any tailoring job required from the new showroom as well as from our first showroom where we have an additional 3,000 sq ft reserved only for the purpose.
Which are current brands in your outlets?
Apart from Raymond, Park Avenue and Parx, we have included ColorPlus also.
How has business been in the festive season which concluded recently?
Dasara and Diwali kept us busy and earlier, business was normal. There is a lot of interest in branded clothes and there has been an increased demand for ethnic wear. One year back, no one would ask for them.
So, we have a lot of variety in the stores and the trend has been picking up.
How about competition from online stores?
When it comes to readymades or fabrics, we still hold an upper hand. Other lifestyle accessories and electronic goods may sell through the online medium, but people still prefer to come to a showroom and get the perfect fit, which may not be the case with an online purchase.
What are your expansion plans?
We are planning more showrooms next year. Raymond decides on the location and they have been looking at areas like K R Puram, Peenya, Dasarahalli, Vidyaranyapura, etc.
How satisfied are you and Raymond with the relationship?
The fact that we have opened a second showroom itself signifies that we share a very healthy relationship. We have had a good experience with the franchise model since it has an excellent framework.
And since we are expanding in other areas, it only shows that we are in for a long-term relationship.
