BENGALURU: The House Committee formed to probe the alleged encroachment of tank beds in and around the city held its maiden meeting here on Wednesday.

Congress MLA K B Koliwad, who heads the 11-member committee, said the panel has decided to work out the modalities of the inquiry. The committee, set up at the last Assembly session, has to submit a report to the government in three months.

Koliwad said the government’s failure to implement the recommendations of the Laxman Rao committee on developing lakes in the city had led to the loss of several tanks.

“Official negligence and misuse of power was the major cause for the disappearance of various tanks,” he said.
