Villagers Move Hc Over Forest Land

BENGALURU: Around 200 poor families put up in Gottigere village in Bannerghatta forest, in the line of fire of the Forest Department, have approached the High Court.

The department has asked them to vacate the land on which they had built huts 20 years ago. Advocate M Irrappa Reddy, who represented the petitioners, contended on Friday that the department had asked them to vacate the land overnight, without prior notice. “The government had decided to regularise these huts in 2006 but suddenly they (the families) received the notice,” Reddy said.

The court asked the petitioners to approach the conservator of forests.
