BENGALURU: In a major step towards laying  a Peripheral Ring Road (PRR) in the city, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) on Friday said the project has been recommended by the state-level Environmental Impact Authority for an environmental clearance certificate.

In 2009, BDA had submitted a proposal for environmental clearance for phase 1 of a PRR connecting Tumkur Road to Hosur Road, crossing Bellary Road and Old Madras Road. The length of the road will be 65 km.

The Environmental Impact Authority has finally recommended issuance of a  environmental clearance certificate for the project. The recommendation was issued through a notification on November 20. The PRR is expected to cost around `5,800 crore and will be laid with the help of the Japanese International Co-operation Agency.
