Chain Snatchers, Associate Held

Bengaluru: Kalasipalya police on Wednesday arrested three men for snatching chains and recovered gold jewels worth `20 lakh from them.

The arrested are Sanaulla alias Sana (27) of Gousianagar in Mysore, Sadiq alias Kuruf (26) of Gangondanahalli and Sudesh Kumar of Calicut in Kerala.

Police said Sanaulla and Sadiq used to go on bikes early in the morning in isolated areas around the city and were snatching gold chains and mangala sutras after targeting lone women. They would approach the women on the pretext of enquiring about an address and divert their attention before robbing them.

The stolen chains were given to Sudesh Kumar, who would sell them to some local brokers and share the money with the duo. One of their associates, Ibrahim alias Kaalu, is absconding.

They were involved in 18 chain-snatching incidents reported in various police stations across the city, police said.
