BENGALURU: Cutting across party lines, BBMP councillors targeted officials accusing them of misappropriating funds and being lethargic.
Ruling party leader N R Ramesh alleged that Chowdegowda, who was serving as Additional Director (Town Planning ) at BBMP was transferred to BDA on October 30. “Chowdegowda has taken charge at BDA, but still comes to the BBMP office to sign files related to building approval. He was at the BBMP office at 8 pm the other day, when the office closes at 6.30 pm. How can an official enter the BBMP office like this?” he asked.
Opposition leader Manjunath Reddy alleged that Chowdegowda was under suspension for 10 years before he was deputed to BBMP. “He did not have any knowledge of town planning,” he added.
JD(S) floor leader R Prakash demanded that officials on deputation at BBMP for more than three years be sent back.
Later, T Mallesh of Congress alleged that the legal department of BBMP was not trying to get the stay on pourakarmika recruitment vacated. The garbage mafia is stopping BBMP from recruiting 4,000 pourakarmikas. “By not showing interest in the case, it looks like the legal department is involved with the garbage mafia,” he alleged.
Former Mayor K Chandrashekar said there are more engineers in major roads department than required. Mayor Shanthakumari said she will direct the Commissioner to depute such engineers from town planning, major roads to solid waste management and ward engineers.
She pulled up Chief Engineer (Storm Water Drain) Ananthaswamy regarding issues related to SWD works and directed him to resolve the same.
