Azim Premji Varsity to Offer Undergraduate Courses

BANGALORE: Azim Premji University, an autonomous university, on Tuesday announced the launch of its undergraduate programme from July next year.

The university offers three-year residential degree programmes in Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Science (BSc). Students can also choose from specialisation courses in their fields of interest -- Humanities with combined History, Literature and Philosophy programmes, Sciences with Physics and Biology and Social Sciences with Economics and Politics.

According to Venu Narayan, director of the School of Liberal Studies and member of the Academic Council, the curriculum is modelled on a liberal education philosophy. “The emphasis here is not on memorisation and exam preparedness, but on critical thinking, analysis and communication,” he said.

Students will be offered a ‘Common Curriculum’ which will allow them to develop their core competences in communication and reasoning, participate in creative aesthetic pursuits, engage with social, political and economic aspects of society, he said.

Applications will be given in November. There will be an open house session for parents and students on October 11 between 2.30 pm and 4.30 pm at Azim Premji Foundation office, #88, S&B Towers, 4th Floor, MG Road, Bangalore. For more information, visit www.azimpremjiuniversity.edu.in/ug.
