Cricket Betting Racket Busted, Four Held

BANGALORE : Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Saturday arrested a gang of four bookies who were running a cricket betting racket after raiding a house at Sultanpalya in RT Nagar. Police said the racket has pan-India presence and international connections.

The accused are Suraj alias Sardar, Balraj alias Raghvendra, Anil Kumar and Nazeer. Police said the gang had taken a house on rent in an apartment. Based on a tip-off, CCB sleuths raided the house. The prime accused, Sardar, was heading the betting syndicate in the state.

Police seized `23.28 lakh, 24 mobile phones, a voice logger, a cash counting machine and betting registers. The investigation team is also probing a match fixing angle in the ongoing Champions League tournament owing to the racket’s links with the Middle East.
