Varsha Gopinathan shows you how simple needlework can create a garden of blooms on fabric

Things you need

  •     Needle
  •     Thread
  •     Cloth
  •     Hoop (optional)

Step 1

Pass a six string thread through a needle’s eye. Pull it a little and leave it. Knot the end of the other half of the string. Now pass the needle from the wrong side of the cloth to the right side.

Step 2

Pass the needle to the wrong side and without pulling it out completely,  push it back to the front of the cloth. The distance between the two should be very close as this will form the inside of the rose. Before pulling out the needle, completely wind the thread around the needle six times and then ensuring that the thread does not unwind, pull the needle out.

PS: This will be a little difficult so to pull the needle out , wiggle the needle.

Step 3

Once the needle is pulled out to secure the knot, push the needle back to the wrong side.

Step 4

Then from the centre of the first knot, repeat step 2 but this time, wind the thread 12 times around the needle.

Step 5

Between one end of the second knot and the centre,  repeat step 2, but wind the thread around the needle  18 times. And for the rest of the petals, keep winding the thread 18 times.
