BENGALURU: Advocate General Ravi Varma Kumar on Monday informed the High Court that the state government was confronted with a situation in which a large number of properties have escaped the tax net. Hence, the Akrama-Sakrama scheme was proposed to bring all such properties under the tax net.

He made the submission before a division bench of Acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna, which was hearing PIL challenging the Akrama-Sakrama scheme.  He also said the scheme is similar to a regularisation scheme introduced in Chennai, which is upheld by the Supreme Court.

The bench asked the government if it has any statistics on the nature of illegalities in the houses, and adjourned the matter by a week as Ravi Varma Kumar sought time to file objections. Meanwhile, Namma Bangalore Foundation also filed PIL challenging the scheme.

‘Issue e-tender for Road Within 2 Weeks’

The High Court on Monday directed the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to build a minor urban road connecting Seegehalli, Gopalapura via Kannamangala village to Ammanikere, which leads to Hoskote, within two weeks.

“It is for the BDA to form the road, to asphalt it and make it roadworthy for vehicular movement without any obstruction. Comply with the order of this court by issuing e-tender within two weeks and complete the road work by July 29,” Justice Ram Mohan Reddy ordered BDA. He also disposed of a petition filed by Chowdeshwari Projects, Kalena Agrahara in MLA Layout.

During the hearing, the counsel for BDA submitted that the master plan provides for formation of a road and its widening. But Red Stone Trading Private Limited and M/s Chaitanya Projects Pvt Ltd in Whitefiled have erected a wall obstructing the passage and hence, Chowdeshwari Projects filed a petition.

In reply, the counsel for M/s Chaitanya Projects submitted that the moment BDA takes up the road work, they will remove the obstruction. Following this statement, the court disposed of the petition.
