BENGALURU: To curb deaths of pedestrians in and around the city, the city traffic police on Monday conducted a drive against jaywalkers.
The drive was conducted on Hosur Road near Electronics City during which 28 pedestrians who were crossing roads in a haphazard manner were booked and produced before a court.
M A Saleem, Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, “Considering the fact that ensuring road safety is our foremost prerogative, the lives of pedestrians is being given importance. In most cases, pedestrians are killed as they cross roads in a careless manner. In this regard, the drive was conducted on Monday to ensure that awareness is raised on the issue.”
“Jaywalking is higher in places like Kudlu Gate, Garebhavipalaya, Madiwala and Hosur Road. The offenders were booked and asked to pay `110 as fine. The stretch around Hosur Road is considered the most dangerous stretch for pedestrians, and we are just strictly adhering to the traffic enforcement laws,” he added.
