BENGALURU: The directive of the Supreme Court on Monday cancelling the results of All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) will also affect the seat allotment process of Medical seats through Common Entrance Test and Consortium of Medical Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK).
According to officials from CET and COMEDK, the SC verdict will delay counselling by a month. A S Srikanth, Executive Officer of COMEDK, told Express, “We have to re-adjust the counselling schedule to avoid inconvenience to meritorious students. We are planning to postpone the final round of counselling by four weeks.”
“If we finish counselling process as per the schedule, there are chances of seat blocking. For example, a student who has taken a seat in COMEDK or CET can again take a seat at All India quota,” said an official from Department of Medical Education.
Keeping this in mind, COMEDK has decided to reschedule the final round of counselling.
However, Medical Education Minister Dr Sharan Prakash Patil told Express that the government is yet to take a decision on postponing counselling.
Fifteen per cent of the seats in the state’s government medical colleges are reserved for the All India quota, which will be filled through the rank list released by the AIPMT conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The test was conducted on May 3, 2015 across the nation and the results were scheduled to be out on June 5. Following allegations of irregularities, students approached the Supreme Court.
The state’s students are confused about the verdict. “Of course the SC verdict is for our sake, but I am still confused whether to take the test or not as the counselling for CET and COMEDK will resume soon,” said Preetham, a medical seat aspirant. Another student said, “The SC ruling is good but we have to prepare for the test again.”
“This is unfortunate. Almost all students have got ranks based on the other entrance examinations and are in the final stages of choosing their medical colleges. Students will find it difficult to study and write another exam,” said, Dr Sridhar G, Managing Director, Ace Creative Learning Pvt. Ltd.
“It is the students’ right to get results on time facilitating them to seek admission. However, ensuring fairness of the examination is equally important and the Supreme Court verdict is aimed at ensuring this,” said Vallish Herur, Director, BASE Educational Service Pvt Ltd.
