BENGALURU: Upa Lokayuka Justice Subhash B Adi on Monday issued notice to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) on alleged violation of Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement Act, 1999, in awarding the works of shifting electricity meters.
The notice was issued in response to a complaint filed by one T J Abraham, who alleged that misdeeds, deliberate omissions and corrupt practice caused `14.97 crore loss to BESCOM in the shifting of three lakh meters.
Abraham alleged that the tenders were invited by BESCOM on November 28, 2011, to shift meters from inside houses to outside. However the tender process was first changed and then dropped without any reason, he alleged.
Subsequently, M/s Santhosh Electricals, which charged a higher rate was selected resulting in a loss to BESCOM, he added.
