Kerala High Court Judge's Son Killed in Bike Accident

BENGALURU:A 21-year-old student, the son of a Kerala High Court judge, died after the motorcycle he was riding pillion on, collided with another bike on Monday night on Suddaguntepalya Main Road in Mico Layout. Two others sustained injuries in the accident.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Anand Mathew, son of Kerala High Court judge Babu Mathew Joseph.

Anand, a native of Kochi, was a fourth semester LLB student at Christ University and staying at a hostel in Tavarekere with his friends.

Anand’s classmate Prince was dropping him off to the hostel after visiting the latter’s sister in Shivajinagar.

Prince, who was riding the bike, overtook a vehicle from the right side in a reckless manner and collided head-on with another bike. Anand was thrown in the air and sustained severe head injuries while Prince and Balaji, who was on the other bike, sustained injuries.

Passersby rushed the accident victims to  St John’s Hospital where Anand succumbed to his injuries in the night. His parents came to the city on Tuesday and took the body to Kerala after the post-mortem, police said.

“It is a case of negligent driving. Both riders were wearing helmets. Thus, they escaped with minor injuries. We also found that none of the riders were under the influence of alcohol,” a senior police officer added. Mico Layout Traffic police are investigating.
