Take Steps to Clear Traffic Blocks at Mantri Mall Area, HC Tells Police

BENGALURU:The High Court on Tuesday directed the Police department to take steps to clear traffic congestion at the Mantri Mall area in Malleswaram.

A division bench of Acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna issued this

direction while disposing of a public interest petition filed by advocate N P Amrutesh.

During the hearing, Chief Justice Mukherjee observed that the increasing population had led to traffic congestion and he himself had experienced difficulties of commuting during a traffic jam from his home at ‘Nyayagrama’ to the court. 

‘Bengaluru is a Good City’

“Bengalureans are good people and Bengaluru is a good place.. So everybody comes here..’, Justice Mukherjee said, indicating that he would have also wished to settle here. 

The division bench also disposed of another public interest petition against the violation of a building bye-law by Mantri Mall.

It directed the petitioner to submit a representation to Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on the violation and in turn the BBMP should conduct an enquiry.

An affordable opportunity should be given to all concerned and everyone’s grievances should be considered before a final call is taken on the issue, the division bench said.

HC Breather For Mining Lessee

A division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee directed the Forest Department not to take any precipitative action against mining lessee Praveenchandra, Chitradurga, in connection with a notice served to him for not paying Rs 38.24 crore as Forest Development Tax (FDT). The division bench ordered the notice to the State Government.

The Deputy Conservator of Forest of Chitradurga, had issued a notice to Praveenchandra for the payment of Rs 38.24 crore, including Rs 25 crore in the form of interest, on May 27, 2015.
