BENGALURU: Minister for Higher Education R V Deshpande said teachers must upgrade their skills with the use of science and technology, which is making rapid strides.
He was speaking after inaugurating a workshop on assessing technologies for higher education organised in the city on Tuesday.
“It is essential to learn newer methods of teaching with the help of technology, which is omnipresent today. The present generation of students is very smart and teachers must be able to match up to their intelligence,” said Deshpande.
The minister added that there needs to be a policy with respect to the delivery of quality- and skill-based education. “This is necessary to ensure that students are skilled. Teachers can propose ideas to the government, which will be implemented after perusal,” he added.
Vice-president of the Karnataka Higher Education Council S V Ranganath said teachers must be curious to learn more, which will, in turn, be beneficial to the students.
VC Appointment
Deshpande welcomed the decision to appoint new vice-chancellors to six state universities. The posts were lying vacant for more than 10 months.
“The VCs were appointed based on the recommendations of the search committee. It is good news,” he said. To a question, Deshpande said that there is no controversy regarding the selection of VCs. “The relationship between the government and the Governor is cordial. The opposition parties are unnecessarily trying to bring discord by stating that the selection of VCs was not fair,” he added.
