BENGALURU: Sunday marked World Yoga Day and if you’ve made a beginning, various app stores offer you a horde of smartphone and tab applications that might help you keep going -- from Yoga for Weight Loss to Borad Chest Yoga to Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. Just make sure, you have a real teacher to learn the nuances from.
Daily Yoga
The app with the tagline ‘fitness on the go’ offers you ‘yoga classes’ from beginners to advanced levels. You can look up postures that you want to learn, and even use the background music for meditation. It lets you chat with your ‘yogi’ friend and puts up your ranking to motivate you. Daily Yoga is available for Android, iOS and Windows.
A WAY OF LIFE
Most practitioners will tell you that yoga is more than just about fitness. The Yoga Way of Life feature seems to introduce beginners to certain concepts as it is for beginners, at least going by the reviews. It offers users 10-minute, 30-minute and 60-minute schedules to choose from. The app is available on Windows and Android platforms.
Office Yoga
If B K S Iyengar introduced chairs as a prop -- as one of the many aids do yoga -- Office Yoga to Keep Fit introduces stretches that can be done sitting on your office chair to wean you away from your ‘sedentary lifestyle’. Its developers claim that the Android plug-in (for which you need to have installed Daily Yoga) is time- space- and cost-effective.
Yoga For Diabetes
The description tells you that everyone benefits from yoga. The app, however, focusses through a set of curated videos, on asanas or postures that are supposed to help keep blood sugar, blood pressure and diabetes under control. Bhujangasana, Surya Namaskar, Dhanurasana and Pranayama are some of the postures and exercises mentioned.
