BENGALURU: Parents and students have begun queuing up for PUC application forms at various colleges after results of Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examinations were declared on Tuesday.

Express visited various colleges across the city and found a sense of urgency and rush. St Joseph’s PU College, National PU College, Jyoti Nivas and Dayananda Sagar College are selling approximately 2,000—3,000 applications daily.

However, colleges such as Christ PU College and Mount Carmel PU College refused to disclose the details.

Parents and students were at the gates even before the colleges  were open, and anxious applicants stood in long queues awaiting the arrival of the principal and staff to get admission.

In Demand

Meanwhile, commerce courses are in demand this year too, followed by science. A senior faculty member of the National PU College, Jayanagar said commerce is a favourite as students from the SSLC Board find it difficult to cope with the combinations of PCMB, PCMC and PCME offered under science.

Most colleges began issuing application forms from May 13 and the last date of issue is May 18, according to a direction by the Pre University Education (PUE) Department.

Many applicants said they have approached three to four colleges as they were uncertain of getting a seat but students with higher scores have applied in just one or two colleges.

“I scored 82 percentage and am seeking admission for PCMB. As there are many students with 90-plus scores, I have applied at four colleges,” said Harshith.

Many students said they got application forms from the website (www.pue.kar.nic.in) while others took a copy from the college premises.

Only National PU College issued its prospectus along with the application form (for `100) while most other colleges issue them only towards the end of the admission procedure.

“I downloaded the application from the PUC website and the same has been received by the college,” said Evangeline.

College officials say the admission process will be over by the first week of June when the lists of eligible applicants will be published.
