BENGALURU: Dr G S Umamaheshwar Rao has been deputed as the in-charge director of National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS), following the retirement of Dr N Pradhan.
Dr Pradhan had stoked controversy during his month-long tenure due to the decisions he had taken, such as the termination of NIMHANS registrar’s services and other retired employees who were working on contracts.
Dr Pradhan handed over charge to Dr Rao on Friday evening, following an order issued by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
Until the appointment of a regular director, senior-most professors of the Institute will head NIMHANS, the order said.
Dr Rao is a professor at the Department of Neuroanaesthesia.
