NCW Chief Meets Singer Over Abuse

BENGALURU: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Lalita Kumaramangalam on Tuesday met singer Premalatha Diwakar, who has accused Ramachandrapura Mutt pontiff of sexually abusing her.

Speaking to Express, Kumaramangalam said, “The case was registered almost a year ago and no chargesheet has been filed yet. We need to know why there is a delay.”

Kumaramangalam visited Premalatha’s house.  “I interacted with the victim and asked her about the progress in the case and her views about the same,” she said.

Later, Kumaramangalam met DG & IGP Om Prakash and Law Minister T B Jayachandra to discuss the case. In December 2014, Premalatha Diwakar, a singer and devotee of Ramachandrapura mutt, filed a rape complaint against the pontiff of the mutt, Ragaveshwara Bharathi swami. After a week, the case was forwarded to CID for investigation.
