Marimuthu Has Just Rs 15,000 in Hand, While Former Mayor Has Rs 30,000

BENGALURU:  Marimuthu, who is contesting the BBMP elections on a JD(S) ticket from the Sagayapuram Ward in Pulakeshinagar constituency, has just Rs 15,000 cash in hand and a loan of Rs 7.20 lakh. At least that is what the affidavit filed by her for the upcoming BBMP elections says.

Cases were booked against Marimuthu in the infamous hooch tragedy of 1981, which killed 229 people. She was acquitted of all charges due to lack of evidence.

However, a history sheet in her name is still open at the KG Halli police station.

According to her affidavit, apart from the Rs 15,000, she does not have any shares, debentures or LIC policies. She has declared 500 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh. There is a commercial building registered in the name of Santosh Kumar (her son) at Byratti village measuring 2,400 sq ft and valued at Rs 15 lakh.

Marimuthu has a building at Kushal Nagar in KG Halli, where the site has been valued at Rs 62.08 lakh.

A building has been constructed in the site, the value of which has been ascertained at Rs 33.20 lakh. Another property in KG Halli has been valued at Rs 20.40 lakh and there is an old building on the property worth Rs 4 lakh.

At Pillanna Garden in the city, she has a site that has been valued at Rs 38.40 lakh. Another of her sites at Pillanna Garden, at a value of Rs 6.75 lakh, has a small shed. At K G Halli, Marimuthu has a site worth Rs 73.60 lakh, where shops have been constructed. A joint property at KG Halli has been valued at Rs 24 lakh. Similarly, separate buildings at BSA Road and Pillanna Garden have been valued at Rs 3.15 lakh and Rs 38.40 lakh respectively. Marimuthu’s residence in Sagayapuram has been valued at Rs 44.22 lakh. She also gets  a rent of Rs 1 lakh. Marimuthu has five criminal cases registered against her, which are in various stages of redressal.

Former Cong MLA’s Brother

N L Mahesh Kumar, brother of former Congress MLA N L Narendra Babu, is contesting from Nagapura ward in Mahalakshmi Layout constituency on a Congress ticket. As movable properties, Kumar and his wife have a combined amount of Rs 6.58 lakh. Both have bank deposits of Rs 3.75 lakh. Kumar has an LIC policy worth Rs 15.90 lakh and his wife has a policy worth Rs 4 lakh.

Kumar has three vehicles — two cars and a motorcycle — worth Rs 7.56 lakh. Kumar has declared his jewellery weighing 50 grams and valued at Rs 1.15 lakh, while his wife has 400 grams of gold worth Rs 9.20 lakh and four kilograms of silver worth Rs 1.28 lakh.

For immovable properties, Kumar has three acres of agricultural land worth Rs 1.05 crore and a farmhouse valued at Rs 45 lakh. He has a commercial building in Hesaraghatta worth Rs 6 lakh and an apartment in Rajajinagar worth Rs 1.95 crore. He has a vehicle loan of Rs 3.98 lakh and a house loan of Rs 8.46 lakh.

What Shantakumari has declared

N Shantakumari, former mayor of the BBMP, is contesting from the Maruthi Mandira ward in Govindrajnagar constituency on  BJP ticket. She took over as the Mayor on September 1 2014. Shantakumari  has declared her cash in hand as Rs 30,000, and has an LIC policy of around Rs 7.25 lakh. There are no criminal cases against her, as per the affidavit.

Shantakumari has stated in the affidavit that she has bank deposits to the tune of around Rs 56,000. She has bonds and debentures worth Rs 5,000, and 250 grams of jewellery valued at Rs 6.43 lakh. As far as immovable properties go, she has two sites. The first is located at Malathahalli village, valued at Rs 10.80 lakh, while another site at ITI Layout is worth Rs 1.36 crore.

In the affidavit, Shantakumari has said that she does not have any loans. However, her husband has loans to the tune of Rs  28.07 lakh. Shantakumari’s husband has Rs 2 lakh cash in hand, with bank deposits of Rs 82,300. He has an LIC policy worth around Rs 9.76 lakh. He has a vehicle (Ford Ecosport) worth Rs 10.30 lakh and 350 grams of jewellery valued at Rs 8.75 lakh.

He has three immovable properties, two in Doddaballapur taluk and one at Nagarbhavi, whose combined worth has been ascertained at around Rs 2.34 crore. He owns a commercial building worth Rs 1.10 crore at Srigandhadakaval. There are two houses registered in his name - one at Nagarbhavi worth Rs 1.20 crore and the other at Yeshwanthpur hobli worth Rs 80 lakh. He has six other properties, three are gifted, and the other three are ancestral.
