Kids Campaign on Mosque Rd

BENGALURU: The Congress candidate from Pulikeshi Nagar could face action for using children in his campaign.

Supporters of candidate Abdul Raqueeb Zakir took the children along to many places, including the busy Mosque Road. Sporting Congress caps, the children waved party flags and shouted slogans.

K Hemaji Naik, Additional Commissioner and District Election Officer (Central), said children could be used to raise awareness about voting, but it was a violation of Election Commission guidelines for them to campaign for a party.

Yarrappa Reddy, Returning Officer for Pulikeshi Nagar, said he was not aware of the violation. He promised action against the candidate if the violation was proved.

“There are provisions to book candidates under the Labour Act for using children during campaigning,” he said.
